When we're in trouble, no one could or want to help us. Therefore, we learnt and tried to be independent. People may knew our trouble but 99% just listen and 1% really care. Sometimes being independent can be good but in the end we still need a company to help us. No human is meant to be alone. No human is good enough. You may need your mother, father,siblings, relatives or friends to help you.
It's best for you to help the person that needs help. Why? If you don't anytime or anyplace, karma will hit you with no mercy. And when it does, the person you left will not help. Maybe a bit but not when you needed them the most.
Any favour or any trouble, just help. Believe me, the trouble that they had may not happen to you but something worst or as a reminder may happen to you.
